duane michals

i decided that from now on i will not only share my own photos here, but photos of others as well. or, to be more precise - the greatest ever photos of others :)

starting with the one and only duane michals, whom i've met in arles once and that's how i know that he is not only an amazing artist, but also - a super funny and clever person ("i have the great capacity for foolishness. it's essential. without it you're just another pretty face!" says seventy something years old duane).

duane michals doesn't look at others' work (and if he does - he only laughs at it), doesn't follow any trends (and again - if he does - it's only to make fun of it). his photos are instantly recognisable, that's his language and he sticks to it. he was actually the first photographer to use a sequence to tell a story and he doesn't allow himself to be in any way limited by a medium he has chosen - he hand writes on his photos, paints on them and incorporates his poetry into it. he transcends the medium because it serves him as way of expressing himself: "when you look at my photographs you are looking into my mind"

let's have a look then

and here you can find an interview with duane michals
